Photo ASICs enhance the performance of Photoelectric Sensor

IMS has developed a series of CMOS photosensor ASICs for high performance miniatured photoelectric sensor. Function blocks include CDS amplification, programmable switch-cap amplifier, programmable LED driver, power on control circuit, self-recovery short circuit protection circuit, synchronized clock, external clock input etc are integrated together with PD/PD arrays to form high performance photosensor ASICs.


IMS ASICs include:


  • ISL400/500 series for diffusive photoelectric sensors that can achieved 3000mm distance with 7mm diameter lens. These series of ASICs do not require a MCU for parameters setting, ASIC gain/mode/threshold/pulse count are set by external resistors. The smallest package of ISL400/500 series is 2mm*3mm. 4mm photoelectric sensor is made using ISL400 series.

  • ISL700B/D series for diffusive photoelectric sensor with programmable distance. ISL700B/D series ASICs use a MCU to form a intelligent photoelectric sensor. The ASICs parameters (gain, LED power, pulse width, threshold, pulse count, frequency etc) can be set using IO-LINK, teach-in button/wire/Hall Sensor.

  • ISL700_2A series is for mechanical adjusted BGS photoelectric sensor. The ISL700_2A integrated 2 PDs with associated signal processing circuit and have zero blind point if the sensor optic is designed properly. The parameters of the ASICs (gain, LED power, pulse width, threshold, pulse count) can be set using IO-LINK, teach-in button/wire/Hall Sensor.

  • ISL7008A/16A/64A series are for triangulation distance measurement based BGS photoelectric sensor. The ISL7008A/16A/64A/128A ASICs integrates multiple pixels with its signal processing and control circuits to form a complete triangulation distance measurement photoelectric sensor that requires very few external components and achieve high performance + miniaturization.

IMS use its ASICs as core technology to provide solutions for customers to built high performance photoelectric sensor.

 

For example, as ISL700_64A is based on the triangulation distance measurement principle, the same sensor can be configured as:

  • Background Suppression Sensor
  • Front-Ground Suppression Sensor
  • Window Switching Sensor
  • Dual Mode: distance + intensity
  • Enhanced Diffusive Mode Photoelectric Sensor
  • The mode can be set by IO-LINK, teach-in button/wire/Hall Sensor


ISL700_64A based sensor achieve high performance in various operation distances, while the hysteresis is settable by the MCU, the black and white difference at different distance are shown in Figure 6.

Using ISL700_8A/16A/64A/128A series, IMS's has built multi-mode sensor in various housing. All sensors using the same ASIC. Sensor housing can be customized if required.
